I have just heard from my brother, who has been "missing" since Sunday from Ocean Springs. He is alive and well and never left his home on Monticello Blvd. He said they chose to "ride it out" but we are uncertain as to the extent of damage he has faced. He has been text messaging to us and today for the first time was able to call from a phone (cell?) They have 2 feet of water in their home, severely damaged outside; don't know condition of neighbors or neighborhood but wanted all of you who are looking for family members or friends from that area, that it is possible they are still in their homes as well, but unable to communicate. DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE! KEEP YOUR PRAYERS ALIVE! Mine were definitely answered!

???Does anyone know if the houses in the Woodlands (off Old CCC Camp road) were flooded? Is there power and water there? We are trying to decide if we should go back. We live on Rosemary Terrace. Thank you.

This message is for Armand. Here is the site I used to search for names and I recommend it to others. www.bergedalen.com/katrina/survived.aspx I just typed in the name Runnels and Bobbie's name was among them. But I don't know where she or her daughters are located. I think it was her sister-in-law Linda who told my brother Duane who told me that everyone in our branch of the family survived but had some degree of house damage. If I learn more, I will let you know. dj@djrunnels.com

Have you heard from your friends on Barnacle yet? I hope so..my aunt lives on warbler, she is there now with generators. she only had a small amount of water damage, but she did say the street in front of her was destroyed..from what i saw on the map, that is barnacle..most evacuated the area though and went to shelters..

The schools are not cancelled all year, they will be out for a while but the days can be made up with holidays and summer vacation. But they could be out for awhile. I grew up in OS but now live in PEnsacola. after Ivan (which did less damage than Kat) my kids were out for a total of 4 weeks. The schools here in Florida are allowing any evacuees to enroll thier children without transfers from prev. school. So there are some other options. I also want to tell all who have not made it home not to lose hope. I was in OS earlier today to help my sister with her house. I was pleasantly suprised that there seemed to be alot of homes with only minimal damage. good luck to all of you and God Bless

Great news. My son, father and myself drove to Ocean Springs Thursday night to find my brother, John Sparks and Family. All were found!!! Their house damaged, no food or water left, shelters running out of supplies and of course no gas anywhere. We had brought with us all of ther above supplies. The shelters were getting more food and supplies on Friday afternoon. The National Guard arrived on Friday as well with ice and water. You can not imagine the horror down there. People are stranded in their homes. The water serge came and went, but cars will not run, no power or water......horrible heat. People are literally trapped in their homes because streets are not passable to get in or out. We were blessed to find my family, many do not have anyone to come help them.
