My mother's house is at 2713 N 6th St. in Ocean Springs (Gulf Park Estates). Does anyone know what the damage is?
Also, my little sister didn't evacuate. She is on Pine Hill road (phone is working, no power). Does anyone know of a shelter or food distribution station within walking distance from there?
Thanks, -Mike

If anyone has any ifno on the area around old walnut they can shoot my way, I'd appreciate it. I will be traveling to O.S. as soon as I can find some gas and then returning to my evac point and will bring as much info back as I possibly can. I will be concentrating mostly on the Gulf Park Estates area and taking a good look around there. I'd also like to bring up another subject in here that will be useful to all of us. We have got to pull together, help one another, and extend our family circle out to limits many of us have never known. It will take a long time to recover from this horrific event, and we all need each other right now. And I proposing that we find some way to set up a Gulf Park Estates team of volunteers to work together for the good of the community. We are all going to be waiting on the insurance companies for untold days, FEMA the same, so for a very extended time, we are basically on our own. As such, that puts a large burden on each of us to help each other. So if you're up to it, post your name on this board with a way to contact you and let's "git-r-done." I can be contacted at faulr1@yahoo.com...as long as I have access to a computer.

To Mike Nesbitt: Mike, I looked at the NOAA pictures yesterday and it "appears" the area North of the Marina on Beachview wasn't hit by the storm surge. But there's no telling what the wind did. There is a distribution center set up at the O.S. Middle School, that I know for sure from the Sunherald.com website. Don't know if that helps, but hope it does.

I spoke last night to a friend who drove from Mobile to Ocean Springs. He lives at 1702 Kensington Avenue at Magnolia, and he says that house survived with little damage as did the houses nearby. My friend's house at 1607 Porter is also intact. Live oaks fared well, but water oaks are down all over town. I hope this very limited information is helpful. RPerrin I was wonder about our friends Isabel and Manuel Malatesta at 1601 Porter Ave. They lived in a house behind a woman named Courtney and her family (don't know husbands name - kids are eisland and emory) Any info would be great!!! Thank you!

Re. Faulk message concerning Gulf Park Estates visit (faulr1@yahoo.com), while surveying, if you have the opportunity to drive down in the area of South 13th, 14th, 15th, and Shelby Lane, many people in Ventura, CA would like you to assess the damage to Shelby Lane (pretty short street) and post what you see back here. Two homes there belonged to the Leslie and Hafferty families who just moved onto Shelby w/i past year or two. These were families consisting of granparents, children, and grandchildren who left our community for yours. Many church members and neighbors here are very concerned, as Mr. Leslie and Mr. Hafferty reportedly intended to stay as of Sunday morning.

Does anyone know if any houses on Mark Daniels Circle made it? My good friend Tori Taranto and some of her family rode out the storm there.

My cousin's home is on White Blvd at Lafitte St near 292 Holcomb Blvd. Any info on the condition of the homes there. It's 209 White Blvd. Eric shoestringprico@yahoo.com Home at 292 Holcomb Blvd is fine with little damage. Home at 290 Holcomb Blvd has some damage. Home at 109 Stennis Avenue is fine. Other homes on Stennis Avenue have some damage from 2-3 ft flood waters, but all the houses are standing on Stennis Avenue. 5 homes on Stennis, on higher ground, had no flood damage.

My parents live on Octavia Drive, past St. Andrews and they have very little to salvage. Many neighbors suffered a lot of damage as well. They are staying at a motel on Exit 50 and the hotel sustained roof damage but this particular exit faired better then most.

I wanted to make sure that you had seen that Tori's status under the Survivors List posted on the website has been changed from unkown to Alive. If you know that June is ok and could confirm that as well we would be very grateful. Thanks !! Praise God for his blessings !!! ~ Ronda ~

Elsewhere in the city:
_Ninety-five percent of the city streets were reopened by Wednesday, Scruggs said.
_Water and ice were being distributed at Ocean Springs Middle School.
_The Red Cross has set up an emergency center at the Ocean Springs Senior Citizens Center on Washington Avenue.
_Shelters were set up in the city at Christus Victor Lutheran Church on U.S. 90 and St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Porter Avenue.

My house on Barnacle was demolished. It was in flood zone C 25 feet above sea level. My insurance was through Lemon Mohler (homeowners and windstorm). I was told at Lemon Mohler that "there is nothing for you here" because I did not have flood insurance. Looking for info on what FEMA or other agencies have told anyone else. Is there going to be a fight with the insurance companies over their claim that this was a flood, not a hurricane? Very confusing how helpful people want to be when you are giving them your money.
