If there is anyone who knows information about the extent of damage on Lovers Lane, could you pass it along? My parents live at 322 Lovers Lane, in one of the Ishee houses. They did evacuate and are hoping to find out any information about their house or the lane generally.
I have heard that most of the area was under water, and that many houses were destroyed. Can anyone confirm or do you know about the Ishee houses?
Thank you! Lea Pickard

Your parents are my neighbors. Judi and I live at 318 Lovers Lane and also evacuated to Florida. We have a three story Ishee House and have learned that our house is still standing. It however took on 4-5 feet of water which amazes me given how high my property sits.
I was told by my friend who checked out my house that a few houses on either side of mine still stand (probably your folks included) but that nearly all of the rest of the lane is GONE!!!!
We are going to head back in a day or two to salvage what we can.
G-d bless to all

Hi Lea,
It's your old friend Leeja. How are you girl. This has been unreal. We are in Arkansas now. I guess you can call us Katrina refugees. We were in the process of relocating to the coast and were staying with my dad while we house hunted. My 2 daughters and I evacuated late Sunday to inlaws in Columbus, MS, and my husband was in Arkansas. But my whole family stayed behind. It looks like we will be here in Arkansas for several more months now.
I am so glad your parents evacuated. I just heard from my family yesterday and they are all fine...thank God. I have also heard that Lovers Lane was very badly damaged by water. I am praying for the very best for your family.
My dad's house ,which is on Dixie St. off of Ocean Springs road is fine, but 3 other family members lost their houses completely in the storm. One was on Elm in Gulf Park Estates (manufactured home). Another was in D'Iberville near the Bay and was washed off the foundation. The other was on the Point in Biloxi.
I hope communication with the coast gets better so everyone can get word from loved ones. God Bless.
Leeja

Concerned about my veterinarian, Dr. Joe Brumfield and his wife...also Steve and Deedy Galagher, all of Le Badine Court just off of Lover's Lane. Any info appreciated. Trisha Miller I just spoke with my mother and father, Lee and Dixie Stine. They live on Le Marin Court just before Le Badine. They had some roof damage from fallen trees but not bad considering. They said Le Badine did ok too. The whole neighborhood is pulling together well. Bob and Faye Moseley are well as well as Dr. Jim and Marlys Drake. They said the Ishe houses had water damage but are standing. The north end of Lovers Lane is really bad however. I managed to call in but they can't call out. If you need to pass a message to someone e-mail me at jkraus176@yahoo.com

Thanks so much to everyone for the information. I don't know if people have had the chance to look at the satellite image, but most of the houses on the upper part of Lovers Lane and in Cherokee Glen are standing. The end of the lane did not fare very well, however, I'm so sad to say. Most are gone. For those that are not, and those on the rest of the lane, it sounds like there is water damage. My parents will be trying to get to Lovers Lane today and I will report on what they see.
Leeja-I'm so glad y'all and your family are safe. It is a relief to hear that, but I'm sorry sorry you'll have to be away so long! There is some word that phone service is coming back and that perhaps power will in a couple weeks, so if there is a house to go back to, maybe you'll be able to get back sooner than you originally thought. But I will be thinking about you. My email is pickle01@luther.edu if you want to send me an email. Take care!

DON'T PAY SOMEONE TO DO THIS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO! WHAT YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH IN TERMS OF LOSS IS SOMETHING MOST OF US WILL NEVER KNOW -- THERE IS NO PRIDE LOST IN ACCEPTING FREE HELP.
St. Paul United Methodist, Christus Victor Lutheran and First Baptist of Ocean Springs all have volunteer work crews coming in from all over the U.S. to provide FREE help for clean up.
If you are a homeowner without insurance or insurance that won't cover your losses, call the churches! You may have to wait because there are a lot of homes to do, but if your work isn't done at this point, it's probably not going to matter if you wait a couple more weeks. The teams are well-trained and well equipped to help, and with teams of 8-15 people, the work is done in a day or two.
We're sending teams 1-2 times a month from Minnesota -- Several of our team members helped clean out flooded areas in Northern Minnesota/North Dakota during 1998 floods, so they know what they're doing! They will also help you go through your belongings and talk with you as you work together. We've established some lasting relationships with the people whose homes we worked on.
Sorry, Torrey and Jeremy, I'm not trying to take business from you, but a lot of these people have lost everything. When we worked there, we found out there were a lot of rental houses that were severely damaged, and I hope the landlords will contact you, as well as those people who did have insurance and can afford your professional help!
