Anyone out there care to swap information with me? I was born and raised in Southern California (although I no longer live there) in the High Desert (elevation 2000 ft.) near the infamous Palmdale Bulge. Have any of you wondered about living in earthquake country?
I notice that Ocean Springs' elevation is 30 feet. What's it like living that close to all that water during storms?
Care to compare disasters?

It's great living this close to the water. I love the warm, sultry climate. I have lived all over the world and chose to make my home here. They say we don't age as quickly because of the humidity. The only time it is a bad place to live is when the hurricanes come. But we have learned to deal with the destruction and keep living in spite of the storms. There is always a celebration here on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. People here really know how to live.

I have lived here most of my life, and if I had to choose to live anywhere in the world my two places is here, and Hawaii. As for hurricanes you can run from them. All other natural disasters you can't run away... By far this is a wonderful place, but years ago it was better......

I have visited OS for the last 20 years, finally got smart and moved here. It's the best place to live (and I've lived in many states) unfortunately too many people have discovered what I did.

Being around oceans all my life I'd have to say Yes You'll be Disappointed. For one it's not an ocean it's the Gulf of Mexico? If you want to see better water then our beaches go on the Ship Island Tour out of Gulfport.
Other then that.. Have Fun!

I was thinking, I live on the banks of the Missisippi, much farther north, and I was afraid I would just see much of the same only larger. I am staying in Gulfport so I may try that. Thanks! I also thought of taking the drive to panama city or pensacola.

I too, pray for the safety of those within the path of Katrina this morning, and through-out today. Someone very close to me has immediate family members that can't be contacted due to the phones/cell sites being down. While immeasurable damage is certainly expected from a hurricane of Katrina's caliber, please say a prayer with me and ask the Lord to keep the loss of human life to a minimum. You're in my heart and prayers Ocean Springs. And a quick message to BajaSteve....I too, am a veteran desert rat, Antelope Valley alum. And right now, I'll stick with the earthquakes bro. We're on an average of one good shaker per 10 years. These folks in the Gulf Coast and the entire eastern seaboard roll the dice 10, 12, or more times per year. DPB, Palmdale CA

You might want to check out the "storm damage" or "looking for family" threads, where that information is being posted.
